Tax ID number for refugees from Ukraine

Even people who live in Germany only temporarily receive a tax identification number, which is a prerequisite for longer-term employment or the receipt of child benefits.

In particular, the tax identification number is indispensable for taking up a job or applying for child benefits. Therefore, refugees and asylum seekers also receive such a tax identification number. The Federal Central Tax Office has published information on the allocation of the ID number to the persons concerned in German and Ukrainian on its website and also points out in it that an employer can apply the anticipated wage tax deduction characteristics for up to three months if the ID number required to call up the ELStAM is not yet available.
