Pensions to rise significantly in 2022

Due to the upcoming significant pension increase, many pensioners will again have to file a tax return for the first time.

The pension will increase significantly by 5.35 % in western Germany and by as much as 6.12 % in the new federal states as of July 1, 2022. The wage increase relevant for the pension adjustment amounts to 5.8 % in the old federal states and around 5.3 % in the new federal states. As a result of the significant pension increase, many pensioners will again slip into tax liability and will then have to file an income tax return for the first time for 2022. In addition, the currently particularly high inflation suggests that there will also be significant pension increases in the coming years because collective wage agreements will be higher this year.
