Corona crisis: Deferral of contributions for voluntarily insured self-employed persons

Entrepreneurs or freelancers who are voluntarily insured in the statutory health insurance system can currently apply informally to most health insurance companies for a deferral of contributions.

Many statutory health insurance funds also grant a deferral of contributions to voluntarily insured self-employed persons until September. If deferral agreements with installment payments already exist, these can be temporarily suspended. Before a deferral is granted, a check is always made to see whether a reduction in contributions due to a crisis-related drop in profits can be considered. The hurdles are lowered - a declaration by the tax advisor or a credible statement by the self-employed person about a significant drop in sales is sufficient. The temporary assessment of contributions is then made at the statutory minimum level. If the situation improves again, you should inform the health insurance fund in good time in order to avoid additional demands for contributions. Check with your health insurance fund if necessary!
