A day in court - WSB study trip to Stuttgart

It is well known that theory and practice are two different worlds. But even in practice, there are facets and differences. Conveying this to our 17 WSB trainees and students was an important aspect of our very special study trip on 18.09.2024. These accompanying our partners and tax consultants Svetlana Ryzhenko from the Mannheim site and Florian Röchner from the Wiesenbach site.

The destination for our WSB junior staff was the tax court in Stuttgart. A case from the years 2005 - 2010, which involved the separate determination of tax bases and the trade tax assessment amount, was heard here in the early morning. During the hearing, our trainees and students were not only vividly shown the consequences of omitted activities, but also became aware of the complexity of the respective facts through this impressive case.

The hearing lasted around two hours, including witness testimony and pleas from the plaintiff and defendant. After the official part, our junior staff were able to talk to the judges. Many of them were impressed by the fact that judges not only have to work with the current legal situation but, as in the case being heard, also have to be legally certain when it comes to old legislation. Many of our young participants were also surprised that AI has not yet arrived in these areas in the same way that it has in many tax consultants' offices.

The study trip was rounded off with a tour of the building, during which processes and structures were explained, and a visit to the in-house library.

"This day showed me in a wonderful way how fascinating and multi-faceted our profession is! It's simply impressive to see how much knowledge from years gone by we can still work with today," says Eleni Lazarou, a trainee tax clerk.

Svetlana Ryzhenko and Florian Röchner were also impressed by the study trip. "An experience like this will stay with our junior staff for a long time," says Florian Röchner. And Svetlana Ryzhenko adds: "They also realize how much respect you have to show for the work and the respective clients. Diligence and the necessary in-depth knowledge are important pillars of our profession."

We would like to thank everyone involved for making this day possible: Cecilia Atas for organizing it, our trainees and students for their enthusiasm and curiosity, Ann-Sophie Tonko for her attentiveness in ensuring that everything ran smoothly, and our two partners Svetlana Ryzhenko and Florian Röchner for their active support.
