Expected contribution assessment limits for 2025

High wage settlements in the past year mean that the contribution assessment thresholds will rise by around 6.5 % in 2025.

Due to the inflation-induced high wage settlements last year, it was already foreseeable that the contribution assessment thresholds and other social insurance values would increase significantly in the coming year. The Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has now published the draft bill for the adjustment of the social insurance calculation parameters, from which the expected values for 2025 are derived.

The national average wage development in 2023 on which the values for 2025 are based was 6.44 %. This is more than two percent higher than in the previous year. Now that the pension equalization between East and West Germany has been completed, for the first time there is no longer a distinction between West and East Germany for pension and unemployment insurance. As was previously the case with health insurance, the values are now uniform throughout Germany.

• The contribution assessment ceiling for pension and unemployment insurance will rise by EUR 6,000 to EUR 96,600 (EUR 8,050 per month).

• The assessment threshold for the miners' insurance scheme will rise by EUR 7,200 to EUR 118,800 (EUR 9,900 per month).

• The income threshold for health and long-term care insurance will rise by a hefty EUR 4,050 to EUR 66,150 (EUR 5,512.50 per month). The compulsory insurance limit will even rise by 4,500 euros to 73,800 euros per year (6,150.00 euros per month).

• The reference value, which is relevant for the minimum contribution for voluntary members of the statutory health insurance scheme, for example, will increase by EUR 2,520 to EUR 44,940 per year (EUR 3,745 per month).
