Artists' social security contribution remains unchanged at 5.0 % in 2025

For the third year in a row, the Federal Ministry of Labor is planning a contribution rate of 5.0 % for the artists' social security contribution.

Particularly during the coronavirus pandemic, the federal government has subsidized the Künstlersozialkasse considerably, thus ensuring that the artists' social security contribution has remained unchanged at a relatively low 4.2 % during this time. However, after five years of constant contributions, the levy rate rose by 0.8 % to 5.0 % in 2023. This value will also apply in 2024 and, according to the plans of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, will remain unchanged at the current level of 5.0 % in 2025. All companies that exploit artistic and journalistic services must pay the artists' social security contribution. The assessment basis for the artists' social security contribution is all remuneration paid to self-employed artists and publicists in a calendar year.
