Increase in the threshold values for the company size categories

In commercial law, the monetary thresholds for the company size classes, which also determine the disclosure obligations, have been raised by around 25 %.

The government implemented the planned increase in the thresholds for company size categories under commercial law, which are particularly important for the scope of disclosure obligations, quite quickly and quietly. The "Second Act to Amend the DWD Act and to Amend Commercial Law Provisions" was promulgated in April. This raises the monetary thresholds by around 25 %. The last such increase under the Accounting Directive Implementation Act was nine years ago.

According to the new thresholds, a corporation can now have up to 450,000 euros in total assets (previously 350,000 euros) and 900,000 euros in turnover (previously 700,000 euros) in order to still be considered a micro-corporation. For the other company size categories, the two monetary thresholds were each raised by exactly 25 %. The new thresholds must be applied to annual and consolidated financial statements, management reports and group management reports for the financial year beginning after December 31, 2023, but may be applied one year earlier.
