Weak economy causes tax revenues to stagnate

In the latest tax estimate, experts expect tax revenues for the state treasury to fall due to the economic situation.

According to the autumn tax estimate, tax revenues for the federal, state and local governments will be worse than forecast in the spring, with a volume of EUR 916.1 billion for 2023. Although a small increase in revenue was predicted for 2024, this was based on the assumption of a significant economic recovery, of which not much has been seen so far. The situation is similar for the following years. In addition, the federal government can expect significantly higher EU levies from 2026, which will place a further burden on the federal budget.
