Fraud with fake ELSTER websites and emails

Fraudsters are currently using emails in the name of ELSTER and fake websites with ELSTER references to intercept personal data from citizens.

Once again, fraudsters are trying to obtain the login details and account or credit card details of taxpayers using fake emails and websites. The Thuringia Ministry of Finance is currently warning that fraudsters are using emails in the name of ELSTER and fake ELSTER-related websites for this purpose and are also attempting to install viruses or Trojans. Recipients of the email are told that a tax refund is still waiting for them for 2022. They are asked to fill in a form on a fake ELSTER website so that the amount can be paid out. The link to the website is not related to the real ELSTER platform. The tax administration never sends tax data or invoices in the form of an e-mail attachment, nor does it request personal information by e-mail.
