Minimum wage to rise to 12.41 euros in 2024

For the first time, the Minimum Wage Commission's proposal to increase the minimum wage in 2024 and 2025 is not unanimous.

In June, the Minimum Wage Commission presented its proposal for the future level of the minimum wage. According to this, the minimum wage is to rise from the current 12.00 euros to 12.41 euros from January 2024. A further increase to 12.82 euros is planned one year later. The Independent Minimum Wage Commission meets every two years to propose an adjustment to the minimum wage to the federal government, but in the fall of 2022, the federal government instead raised the minimum wage by law from 10.45 euros to 12.00 euros per hour.

The proposal of the Minimum Wage Commission is to be used again for the next increase. The current proposal was not adopted unanimously for the first time since the minimum wage was introduced in 2015 because employee representatives had wanted a significantly higher increase.
