Fraud attempt with fake e-mails about tax credits

Once again, the tax authorities are warning of a wave of fake e-mails about supposed tax credits, which are intended to steal the recipient's access data.

There are repeated attempts to trick unsuspecting citizens into disclosing private data and passwords with fake emails. In addition to alleged emails from various banks, there are also repeated phishing emails that purport to come from the tax authorities. The Thuringian tax authorities are currently pointing out that fraudsters are sending emails in the name of the Federal Ministry of Finance. They claim that a refund is still waiting for the taxpayer. In order to receive this, the recipient should verify themselves using a link provided in the email. The tax authorities urgently warn against carrying out the verification requested by e-mail. The tax authorities never send personal tax data or tax assessments as email attachments. Requests for payment from the tax office are only sent by post or via the personal ELSTER user account. Notifications of refunds are also only sent in this way.
