Application deadline for energy cost containment program expires

Companies in energy-intensive industries have until August 31, 2022 to apply for the grant from the federal government's energy cost containment program.

Shortly after the start of the war in Ukraine, the German government launched an aid program for particularly energy-intensive industries. Since then, companies that are particularly affected by high energy costs can apply to the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) for a subsidy of up to €50 million towards their natural gas and electricity costs. The grants will be paid towards the costs of natural gas and electricity in three stages between February and September 2022.

The funding levels differ in particular according to the sector, the subsidy rate, the maximum amounts and any operating loss. The application for the subsidy must be submitted by the company itself via the BAFA online portal. The deadline for the application is August 31, 2022 and cannot be extended. If you are eligible for the program and have not yet submitted an application, there are only a few weeks left to submit the application, after which a deduction of 80 % of the grant will be paid out.
