Minimum wage to rise to 10.45 euros by July 2022

The Minimum Wage Commission proposes an increase in the minimum wage to 10.45 euros in four half-yearly stages from January 2021 to July 2022.

The statutory minimum wage, which was last raised to 9.35 euros on January 1, 2020, is to rise in four stages from the current 9.35 euros to 10.45 euros by July 1, 2022. This was unanimously agreed by the Minimum Wage Commission at the end of June. According to the commission's proposal, the next increase is scheduled for January 1, 2021, initially to 9.50 euros. The second increase to 9.60 euros will follow six months later. Two increases are also planned for 2022, each six months apart - to 9.82 euros on January 1, 2022, and finally to 10.45 euros on July 1, 2022. The German government still has to set the future level of the minimum wage by decree. However, it will generally follow the Commission's proposal.
