Child allowance for a child who is ill before or in education

A child who is willing to be educated but cannot complete an education due to illness must also be considered for child benefits.

Entitlement to child benefit for a child without a training place requires that the child is willing to undergo training but has not succeeded in starting or continuing vocational training despite serious efforts. In the opinion of the Hamburg Fiscal Court, a child who is willing to undergo training and who is prevented from making serious efforts to undergo vocational training as a result of an illness, or who has to discontinue training for the time being as a result of the illness, is to be treated in the same way in terms of entitlement to child benefit as a child who makes serious efforts to find a training place but is unable to do so.
