More time for electronic income tax return 2016

At least in Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia, taxpayers who submit their tax returns electronically themselves can take two months longer this year.

At the beginning of January 2017, the Act on the Modernization of the Taxation Procedure came into force, which will give all taxpayers two months more time to submit their tax returns from 2019. The two largest federal states, Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia, are even granting the longer submission deadline from this year onwards, subject to one condition. The condition is that the tax return must be submitted electronically to the tax office in an authenticated form. Anyone who is already using electronic submission or who registers by the end of May can take until July 31 to submit their 2016 income tax return in these two federal states. If you submit a non-authenticated electronic tax return, the statutory submission deadline of May 31, 2017 remains in place.
