Fraud scam with tax refunds in online banking

The tax authorities are warning of a new online banking scam in which supposedly erroneous tax refunds are being faked and then transferred back to the tax office.

Many taxpayers expect a refund after submitting their tax return. Fraudsters are now taking advantage of this circumstance with a new scam: With the help of a Trojan, the display in the online banking of those affected is manipulated. The account then shows a credit note with the client "tax office", at the same time it is indicated that there was an erroneous transfer. However, the supposedly refunded money is not in the account and, in the case of a return transfer, is not forwarded to the tax office but to the account of the criminals. The tax authorities therefore warn against making a return transfer for such credit amounts.
