What do taxes, finance, insurance and rent have in common with school? Generally speaking, not much. Except for one important exception: Future Day - an initiative that aims to give pupils an understanding of these four topics and prepare them for an independent life after school. We at WSB are regular participants. And 18.07.2024 showed that this event is so important and right. For the 1000th time since 2019, Future Day was held on Helmholtz-Gymnasium organized. Of course, we from WSB were also there again! 😊

For the topic of taxes Jochen Hummelpartner and tax consultant at WSB in Heidelberg. It was a special day for him too, with many memories and great impressions. Once a pupil himself at Helmholtz-Gymnasium, now in the role of speaker, he showed the interested pupils the variety of taxes and how close the connection to them is even in their youth. "My aim is to convey to young people how exciting and important taxes & co. are. By understanding the connections in everyday life, they can learn a lot more and benefit from the links to their lives. Being curious and asking questions is a great strength," he emphasizes with commitment. Workshops with practical examples successfully rounded off the multifaceted tax part.

Lena Jech, teacher for WBS/Gemeinschaftskunde and French, has brought the thousandth Future Day to Helmholtz-Gymnasium: "It is important to me that the pupils receive all the information first-hand that will help them to cope independently after school. Equality of opportunity is an absolute motivation for me. Because all children in our society must be given the same opportunities," she says.

The founders and now managing directors of the initiative were also there to celebrate this very special Future Day: Lorenzo Wienecke and Juri Galkin. And they came with a surprise. They had their book "Your crash course for life" with them. Already listed as a Spiegel bestseller, each student and speaker received a copy as a gift. True to the motto #machenstattmeckern, the book contains crisp and fresh answers to the most pressing questions and is therefore an indispensable guide for all students who are thinking about starting an independent life after school.
