WSB on the number of the month: The national debt in one second
"Time is money" is a common saying. In this case, however, "time costs money" is more appropriate. Because the national debt in Germany is growing by 3,974.00 euros per second.
How is this to be understood? This is the state of public finances:
According to calculations by the Federal Statistical Office, Germany's debt will have grown to around EUR 2,460 billion by mid-2024.
Government debt will be accelerated by the supplementary budget 2024 for the federal government, which is intended to further increase the federal budget's new debt.
Based on the federal, state and local government budgets, the Taxpayers' Association estimates the planned volume of new debt for 2024 at around 125 billion euros.
What does that mean?
The scope for action of current and future generations is being restricted, as more and more public funds are being used to service debt, the tax burden is increasing and/or the range of public services is decreasing. What impact will this have on us and future generations? How much longer can we afford this course?
