WSB about the number of the month: This time with „9 out of 10“

And that's what's behind it: Undeclared work, because 9 out of 10 domestic helpers are not registered!

The offices for fines and criminal matters of the tax offices processed 50,000 proceedings for tax offenses nationwide.

4.4 million private households in Germany employ domestic help - but only 275,000 of these are registered with the Minijob Center.

The German Economic Institute (IW) assumes that 9 out of 10 domestic helpers work illegally. In a representative survey, it asked private households about the reasons for illegal employment.

The answers:

Many people deny that this is tax-free neighborly help. Is that true?

❌ Unfortunately not. Occasional help between neighbors can remain untaxed. However, regular, paid assistance is illegal employment!

Many people think that legal employment is too expensive. Is that true?

💰 Usually not. For registered mini-jobs, the tax office grants a tax bonus for household-related services of 20 % of the salary, up to a maximum of 510 euros per year. The tax savings are often even higher than the taxes on the mini-job.

Further advantages of legal employment

💰 As a private household, you generally only pay 14.62 % tax on the mini-job wage.
🛡️ If something happens to your domestic help at work, accident insurance will cover it. So you don't have to worry about liability!
