Why the tax authorities sometimes apply double standards - WSB on curious types of tax
Not only the butcher would vehemently disagree! Because what we're talking about today doesn't just come in different compositions and flavors - above all, it comes with and without meat! You may have noticed - today is all about the sausage 😉
And this not only makes a big difference for butchers and consumers, but also for the tax office, because:
7 % VAT is due if the sausage contains animal meat.
19 % sales tax is due if the sausage is vegetarian or vegan.
The reason for this can be found in Annex 2 of the VAT Act. This includes all foodstuffs that are taxed at a reduced rate - but unfortunately not meat substitutes.
Don't you care or do you think it's an animal injustice?
