WSB on astonishing court rulings: Police officers live dangerously - even in the office
Spoiler: Repair fail on a wall clock in the office is not an industrial accident.
This curious case recently occupied the Federal Administrative Court: a police officer wanted to repair the wall clock in his office. He pulled out his folding knife to bend the clamping springs in the battery compartment. And that's when it happened:
The knife snapped and cut his little finger. The officer wanted the incident to be recognized as an industrial accident.
Unlike the knife, however, the attempt did not work.
The Federal Administrative Court ruled that the mishap was not an occupational accident.
The razor-sharp reasoning of the judges:
The unauthorized repair with a misappropriated tool was contrary to the interests of the employer. Folding knives are dangerous objects and unsuitable for repairing a watch.
