The bicycle was invented over 200 years ago and soon became so popular that even the tax authorities turned their attention to it: at the end of the 19th century, a corresponding tax was introduced, first in France and then in parts of Germany.

The owners had to buy a "ticket" and carry it with them.

But no tax without an exemption: 
Contract workers who needed their bike to get to the factory were exempt from the tax, as were members of the military.

Kind of crazy, isn't it? 😉

There is no longer a tax on bicycles. On the contrary. Nowadays, job bikes are extremely popular and enjoy tax privileges.
