Astonishing court rulings - WSB about a case that had it "KInsich"

Made-up references, fictitious quotes - a lawyer embarrasses himself in court with an AI pleading. Perhaps you're saying to yourself, to err is (in)human?

Well, a confident demeanor with complete cluelessness ... this characteristic cannot only be attributed to some individuals made of flesh and blood. For example, in a ludicrous case at Cologne District Court:

In a family law dispute, the court received a pleading that was obviously AI-generated and unchecked by the lawyer: nothing but hallucinations with made-up references and fictitious quotations.

The district judge ruthlessly dissected the pleading instead of being dazzled by the AI chatter. He was not amused by the family law nonsense and ruled:

⚖️ The deliberate dissemination of untruths may constitute a breach of professional law by the lawyer.
⚖️ The latter must refrain from making such statements in future, as they severely damage the reputation of the rule of law and the legal profession in particular.

It is a well-known phenomenon that AI models repeatedly throw up incorrect information on legal issues. It can provide support, but human expertise remains absolutely essential. Use AI with a sense of proportion - tested, responsible and always with human intelligence at the forefront.
