Christmas is just around the corner: WSB on tax-efficient salary allowances
Motivate your employees with a tax-free gift, because small incentives promote team spirit and loyalty.
Gifts up to 50.00 euros remain tax-free!
As an employer, you can give your employees monthly benefits in kind worth up to EUR 50.00 free of tax and duty.
Why not make the most of this limit in December? How about a high-quality bottle of wine or a good book for Christmas, for example?
But also think about the no-goes:
- You cannot give cash as a tax-free gift, it is always wages!
- If you break the 50 euro exemption limit, the entire value of the gift is subject to tax and duty.
Vouchers are also always welcome!
Incidentally, the 50 euro limit also applies to earmarked vouchers, provided you grant them in addition to the wages owed anyway. However, this should be a matter of course for a gift anyway.
The advantage:
Your employee is flexible when redeeming and can fulfill an individual wish.
Would you like to dig a little deeper into your pocket?
If you want to spend more than 50.00 euros per gift and employee, you can simply include the tax due in the gift by paying a flat-rate wage tax of 30 % to the tax authorities for the non-cash benefit.
The advantage:
Your employee can enjoy the gift without having to declare it later in their tax return.
Or should it be a little smaller this year?
If you don't have a large budget - no problem: the tax office will turn a blind eye to small gifts of up to 10 euros anyway. Promotional items such as pens, mugs or USB sticks do not count as gifts or non-cash benefits and can be given away without tax consequences.
Whatever you decide - we wish you and your team a wonderful Christmas season.
