Flowers, love, sales tax - Valentine's Day greetings from WSB

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day - but not even on this occasion does the taxman mutate into a romantic.

Every year on February 14, the florists' business is booming. After all, it was the florists who brought Valentine's Day into being, it is often said.

According to other sources, the custom goes back to St. Valentine of Rome.
More than 1,750 years ago, this rebellious priest is said to have married couples in a Christian ceremony despite an imperial ban and presented them with a flower from his garden.

Nowadays, Valentine's Day is much more compliant with the rules 😉 The tax authorities ensure this with the following VAT rates:

💐 7 % are due when you buy fresh cut flowers or a bouquet.
🌾 If you pick the flowers directly from the farmer's field, it is 9.5 %.
🏺 If the flowers are in a vase as a set, you will have to pay the full 19 %.

And - what do you prefer to give as a gift? 🌹
